Life is beautiful, but it isn’t always easy. And while nobody at Wanderous is a healthcare professional, our employees do rank “Mental Health” as one of the social issues they’re most passionate about. (Seriously, we took a survey.)

We believe in maintaining an open dialogue about the very human struggles we all face sometimes, so we couldn’t miss an opportunity to share some of our team’s simplest (amateur!) tips for daily mental health maintenance.  This list is NOT a substitute for professional treatment, and it’s not intended as medical advice, but the Wanderous crew has certainly found them helpful… and we hope you will too.

  1. Limit news consumption 📰

It’s important to stay informed, but too much bad news at once tends to paralyze rather than inspire. Try designating just 15-45 minutes a day to engage with current events. And if your social media feed is one endless doom scroll, take a break! Or at least mute the accounts that are stressing you out.
  1. Spend time with your community 👯‍♀️

Many of us tend to isolate when we feel down or overwhelmed, but this is a trap. Often, spending time with others – whether that looks like an afternoon of volunteering or simply grabbing dinner with a friend – can snap you out of a sad spell, or at least make the tough stuff feel less heavy.
  1. Speak to yourself like you would a friend ☺️

The way we talk to ourselves, even in our heads, has a very real impact on our self-worth and happiness. It may feel silly, but try taking one minute each day to name something you like about yourself. And for goodness sake, please stop calling yourself stupid when you make a mistake, or lazy for taking a break. You deserve the same kindness you show your loved ones.
  1. Consider a plant-powered assist 🌱

The stress-relieving benefits of CBD and other hemp-derived compounds are well documented. Products like Wana’s non-intoxicating Quick Calm Gummies can take the edge off a particularly gnarly stress spiral. (NOTE: Hemp is not a replacement for meds that your doctor has prescribed!)
  1. Don’t be scared to ask for help 📣

The above tips can help smooth out the ordinary rough patches we all experience, but they’re not a substitute for therapy or medical care. If you are seriously struggling with depression, anxiety, or another mental health issue, talk to a trained professional. Our nonprofit partners at Hope for the Day have put together an amazing “Resource Compass” to help people find affordable, accessible help when they need it.

At the end of the day, no single tip or trick or delicious hemp product can guarantee a life without stress or pain or sadness. But if there’s one thing we do know, it’s that you and your brain deserve as much grace as the next person. If you’re struggling  to make your own mental health a priority, consider this your invitation to step back, take a breath, and look for support. No one really has it all figured out, but one thing’s for sure: we’re all in this together.
