Rare Cannabinoids Explained
The Benefits of CBN, CBG, CBC, and THCV
It feels like just yesterday that THC and CBD were the only hemp-derived compounds anyone talked about. But as science slowly catches up to the nuance and complexity of our favorite plant, more people are discovering the benefits of rare and minor cannabinoids like CBN, CBG, CBC, and THCV.
If all these abbreviations are starting to feel like alphabet soup, don’t worry. We’re here to give you the highlights on some of the most popular (and beneficial) of these up-and-coming compounds, which ones may support your specific needs, and how minor cannabinoids might work together to enhance the effects of CBD or THC.
But before we can understand each cannabinoid’s individual strengths, we have to understand how they work – separately or together – within your body.
The Endocannabinoid System: How It Works & What It Does
Everyone has an endocannabinoid system (or ECS), whether or not they’ve consumed hemp or “marijuana.” This complex network of transmitters and receptors is responsible for regulating many bodily functions, including appetite, sleep cycles, stress, inflammation, and more.
A “cannabinoid” refers not only to THC and friends, but to any molecule that interacts with the receptors in your ECS. Few people realize that the body actually produces its own cannabinoids – also known as “endocannabinoids.” These homemade molecules are supposed to modulate signals within the ECS – signals like hunger pangs or sleepiness – which helps your body maintain balance throughout your day.
But if your ECS is not functioning as it should, you may be able to bring in outside help from plant-derived compounds (aka “phytocannabinoids”) like CBD and THC.
Say a new medication is making you feel nauseated – THC may bind to your body’s CB1 receptors, stimulating the hunger signals that would otherwise be suppressed, and reduces signaling from the gut and brain pathways that trigger nausea. On the flip side, say you went a little too hard at the gym. CBD may actually reduce the intensity of pain signals to your brain, essentially telling your ECS, “We are aware that our muscles need to rest, please cool it with the sore spots.”
Why is the endocannabinoid system important? Because different phytocannabinoids (remember, THC, CBD, CBG, etc.) affect the ECS in different ways. Not only that, but many of them can actually be combined to produce uniquely synergistic benefits – a phenomenon scientists call “The Entourage Effect.”
Now that the basics are out of the way, let’s look at some up-and-coming rare cannabinoids on a case-by-case basis.
CBN: The Sleepy Cannabinoid?
CBN, or cannabinol, may be the most popular hemp compound outside of THC and CBD. That’s because CBN has long been believed to have sleep-promoting qualities that make it a popular addition to many plant-powered bedtime formulations (including Wana’s and Happi’s).
Does CBN make you sleepy? There’s limited research as to whether this compound actually induces drowsiness, but several recent studies do suggest that it may work well with both THC and CBD to support targeted relief from discomfort AND stress, two of the leading causes of sleeplessness among American adults. But whether it’s truly sedating, calming, pain-relieving, or a combination of all three, there’s plenty of scientific AND anecdotal evidence that CBN can be a valuable tool in your sleep support arsenal.
CBG: Don’t Worry, Be Happy
We’ve explored CBG, or cannabigerol, more fully in another recent blog post, but here’s the headline:
CBG has similar calming effects to CBD, especially when the two are combined… hello, Entourage Effect! And as a happy little bonus, CBG has also been observed to elevate levels of the mood-boosting neurotransmitter GABA.
These soothing, sunny effects make CBG a great addition to targeted stress-relief formulations like Wana’s Quick Calm Gummies. As with CBD, they can also act as a helpful counterbalance to the potentially unpleasant side effects of THC – like paranoia and anxiety – which is why it’s included in all of Wana’s recreational Quick and Classic Gummies.
CBC: Little Molecule, Big Relief
CBC, or cannanbichromene, is probably the least known rare cannabinoid on this list. Scientists are still exploring all of this molecule’s potential benefits, but early research suggests that CBC may be especially helpful for targeted relief from aches and pains.
One reason CBC might ease discomfort is that it interacts with our TRPV and TRPA receptors – sensory mediators that transmit pain signals, as well as sensations like touch and temperature. In addition to its sensory impact, CBC has been observed to significantly reduce inflammation during animal trials, especially in combination with THC. (There’s that Entourage Effect again!)
While CBC has yet to gain the recognition of other rare cannabinoids, like CBN, its pain-relieving potential makes it an important molecule to keep an eye on. And if you’d like to try it for yourself, you can find it in Wana’s calibrated Quick Relief Gummies.
THCV: The Sober Twin of THC?
THCV (or tetrahydrocannabivarin) may sound a lot like THC, but that little V makes a big difference.
Both THC and THCV interact with the same receptors in your endocannabinoid system, but in opposite ways – like “Drive” versus “Reverse” on a gear shift. Where THC is intoxicating, meaning it gets you high, THCV is typically not. Where THC stimulates appetite, aka “the munchies,” THCV may actually suppress it. And where high doses of THC can make you sleepy, research suggests that THCV can actually support focus and alertness, giving a boost to cognitive systems that help us complete tasks and make decisions.
Because of its qualities as an appetite suppressant – and its potential for supporting clearer, more controlled decision-making – you may encounter THCV in hemp products marketed as “anti-munchies” or weight loss aids. Due to its focus-enhancing potential, it’s also included as a counterbalance to THC in Wana’s Quick Lift Gummies, which deliver a more motivated, tuned-in high that many people find pairs well with a favorite outdoor activity or mindfulness practice.
Knowing Your Cannabinoids: Why It Matters
The rare cannabinoids we’ve covered here – CBN, CBG, CBC, and THCV – barely scratch the surface of the hundreds of potentially beneficial compounds found in the hemp plant. Even so, familiarizing yourself with these four increasingly popular molecules can be crucial in helping you find the hemp products best suited to your needs. For example:
- Looking for a sleep aid? Seek out products that mix THC with CBN and/or CBG, and stay clear of activating THCV.
- Something to relieve aches and pains? THC + CBD is a great combo, but THC + CBG + CBC might make an even better one.
- A better way to unwind, or a high that won’t make you overly anxious? Add some CBD and/or CBG to your THC.
- An edible to enhance your next hike, rather than leave you snoozing on the couch? Toss some THCV into the mix!
When you know at least the basics of the hemp alphabet, you don’t have to rely on slick marketing messages to find the products that work for you. Knowledge is power, as they say, and the power of these rare cannabinoids is now yours to unlock.
Functional Wellness Bundle
Sleep. Stress. Pain. Mood. There’s a Wana Optimals Gummy for all of it, each of them delivering a carefully calibrated blend of plant compounds (including THC, CBD, CBG, and CBN) to help you “optimize” your daily wellness. Now, you can explore all of them for 15% less than it would cost to buy them separately.
Functional Wellness BundleYour Guide to Microdosing THC
“Microdosing” refers to the daily consumption of a small, non-intoxicating amount of THC, psychedelics, or another psychoactive substance. The goal isn’t to be constantly high, but to promote long-term wellness benefits like reduced anxiety, mental clarity, better sleep, and an overall sense of balance – without feeling intoxicated.
But does it work? Can a daily “microdose” of THC really help you think and feel your best? Emerging research suggests it can – but only if it’s done with consistency, intention, and caution.
If you’re ready to give microdosing THC a try, here’s the scoop on how to get started, what to expect, and ways to maximize the benefits (while minimizing unwanted side effects).
What are the Benefits of Microdosing THC?
First things first: when we say microdose, we really do mean “micro” – typically no more than 1.5 milligrams at a time. A microdose should be enough to unlock THC’s benefits without impairing cognition, or making you feel “high.” You want it to enhance, not disrupt, your daily routine.
And what are the long-term benefits of microdosing THC? Recent studies have linked the practice to a variety of positive wellness outcomes, including…
- Reduced anxiety. Although high doses of THC can cause paranoia, a 2017 study found that a moderate dose actually lessened participants’ anxiety during stressful situations – a conclusion largely supported by a 2016 review of the existing literature on the therapeutic use of cannabis. These effects become even more pronounced when you introduce other cannabinoids, like non-intoxicating CBD and CBG, which can work synergistically within your body’s endocannabinoid system to help regulate stress responses.
- Focus and Clarity. Again, consistent high doses of THC tend to have a detrimental effect on memory and cognitive function – and THC should never be consumed at high doses before driving or other important tasks. That said, some researchers believe that low doses of THC, in combination with CBD, have the potential to actually improve cognition. There’s even some research to suggest it may help with the treatment of neurodegenerative illnesses like Alzheimer’s disease.
- Creativity and enhanced problem-solving. As anyone who’s ever been struck with a brilliant “highdea” can attest, THC can help our brain form new connections or break out of entrenched thought patterns. Microdosing may help you approach existing problems in new ways, or even inspire you to change routines that are no longer serving you.
- Better sleep quality. Here again, high doses of THC are widely known to induce drowsiness and sedation – but research suggests that too much of it may actually suppress REM cycles. Low doses, on the other hand, have been consistently shown to reduce sleep disturbances over time, especially in combination with CBD.
- Overall mood enhancement. THC stimulates the release of the “happy chemical”
dopamine. In combination with cannabinoids like CBG – which may elevate the mood-boosting neurotransmitter GABA – low, consistent doses of THC may support increased feelings of happiness and contentment in your daily life.
How to Make the Most of Your Microdose
Let’s assume you’re sold on adding a tiny bit of THC to your wellness regimen. Here are some important best practices for maximizing those new-found wellness benefits.
- Keep it consistent. Microdosing is a long game. You likely won’t see results with your first dose, so patience and consistency are key. Try to take your microdose at the same time every day.
- Find your perfect dose. For most people, a daily 1-1.5mg of THC is enough to see benefits, but everyone’s body is different. The first time you microdose, begin with no more than one milligram. If, after a couple of weeks, you don’t notice much change, consider increasing your microdose to 1.5mg. You may eventually decide to go up as high as 2-2.5mg, although higher doses aren’t usually recommended for an ideal microdosing experience.
- Be careful when you shake things up. If trying microdosing for the first time, or if you’re considering increasing your “microdose,” make sure you do it on your day off. Don’t get adventurous with your dosage right before an important work presentation, picking your kids up from school, or operating heavy machinery. On the off chance you start to feel “high,” it’s important that you remain in a safe and low-stress location until the effects begin to wear off.
- Take breaks strategically. While microdosing works best as a daily practice, long-term use of THC and other cannabinoids can cause you to build up a tolerance. All that means is that your body begins needing higher doses to feel the same effects. Taking regular breaks from your microdosing routine – say, a couple of days a week, or 2-4 weeks every six months – may help you to experience maximum benefits from the most micro of doses.
The Perfect Product for Microdosing
One potential challenge for those looking to explore the microdose mindset is the wide variation in dosing and quality among commercial hemp products, which are subject to far less regulation than traditional “marijuana” sold in dispensaries.
For this reason, it’s best to identify a product (or products) you can rely on. Every THC-infused gummy, tincture, or beverage on shopwanderous.com is subject to rigorous third-party testing and made with only the highest quality ingredients – but some contain a lot more than a “micro-dose” of THC!
If you’re ready to start your microdosing journey, here are a few Wanderous-approved approaches to get you started:
- For ready-made microdosing:
Wana Optimals Quick Calm Gummies contain a perfect 1mg microdose of THC per serving. They’re also infused with grounding CBD and stress-reducing L-theanine. A great option for those hoping a microdose regimen can help manage everyday anxiety.
Or, if beverages are more your style, try mixing a concentrated Cann “Roadie” into sparkling water (or sipping it straight from the pouch). Be aware, though, this tasty THC-infused liquid contains a full 2mg per serving, half a milligram more than the recommended microdose. For some experienced consumers, that may not be an issue… but if you’re new to the game, consider starting with a half serving and refrigerating the rest for later. - For making your own microdose:
Many of Wana’s Quick and Classic Gummies contain 10mg THC per piece. That’s much more than a microdose. The good news is, Wana’s gummies are perfectly homogenized – meaning the THC is distributed evenly during the cooking process – so you can easily cut them into smaller pieces for a reliably smaller dose.
Try dividing a delicious Passionfruit Pineapple or fast-acting Peach Bellini gummy into quarters for a perfectly calibrated microdose. Not only will it make your gummies go farther, but it’ll offer you the added benefits of mood-boosting CBG and stress-relieving CBD
*NOTE: Wana’s dosing may vary depending on where and when you purchase your gummies. ALWAYS check the label to confirm your dose before you consume.
Setting Your Microdose Intentions
Because microdosing is about subtle, non-disruptive changes to your wellness routine, it can take some time to feel effects.
To ensure you’re getting the most of your new regimen, consider writing down your reasons for wanting to microdose before you begin – are you hoping to feel less stressed? More focused? Better rested? Once you’ve decided, take five minutes every day, or even every week, to record any differences you notice. If you feel more or less the same, maybe it’s time to try a different product or consider adding another half-milligram. Ultimately, you’re the expert on your own experience, and frequent, documented check-ins with yourself can help inform your next microdose move.
Of course, if you’re ever in need of some external advice, the dedicated experts at Wanderous are always here to help.
Quick Calm
These fast-acting gummies ease anxious feelings in just 5-15 minutes with three calming cannabinoids, 30+ relaxing plant compounds, and a therapeutic dose of L-theanine – a calming amino acid found in green tea. And with only 1mg of THC per serving, most people can take Quick Calm Gummies any time of day without feeling high.
Quick CalmIf you’re a fan of Wana Gummies, you may already know they’re getting a makeover – and that means an important change to our dosing guidelines.
Here’s everything you need to know about what to expect, why we made the change, and how to keep enjoying the right dose of Wana for you.
What’s different?
Your Wana Gummies will retain the same taste, texture, and effects you already love, with two important differences:
- They will now come packaged in an easier-to-open resealable pouch.
- Many of Wana’s gummies now contain a double dose of THC, CBD, and CBG – that’s 10mg per piece instead of 5. That means, if you’re used to taking only 5mg THC gummy, you should begin cutting each gummy in half. (NOTE: This dosing transition only applies to the Quick and Classic Gummies. The Wana Optimals formulations won’t change.)
How does this affect the dosing guidelines?
The new packaging will contain TEN recreational gummies, each containing 10mg of THC. This is a change from the previous model of TWENTY gummies, each containing 5mg THC.
The total milligrams per package will remain the same, but it’s important to be mindful of the change per piece. Here are some specific suggestions:
- If you normally take two 5mg gummies, or if you’re fairly experienced with THC, you can now take just ONE Quick or Classic Gummy.
- If you normally take one 5mg gummy, start with one half of a new Quick or Classic Gummy.
- If you normally take half a 5mg gummy (2.5mg) or are new to THC, begin with one quarter of a Quick or Classic Gummy.
As always, if you’re unsure how much to take, start low and go slow. Begin with a quarter or half gummy and wait at least one hour to see how you feel before consuming more.
REMINDER: Dosing for the effects-based Optimals line – Stay Asleep, Fast Asleep, Quick Calm, and Quick Relief – is not changing at all.
Will the change affect all Wana Gummies?
Major packaging updates take time to roll out, so it may be a few weeks or months before your favorite gummies turn up in their new pouches. But eventually, yes, the packaging and dosing update will affect all of Wana’s recreational Quick and Classic Gummies. That includes: Island Punch, Peach Bellini, Strawberry Margarita, Blueberry Lemonade, Raspberry Indica, and Passionfruit Pineapple Gummies.
The effects-based Optimals line – which includes Wana’s Fast Asleep, Stay Asleep, Quick Calm, and Quick Relief Gummies – will also be moving to new, easier-to-open pouches, but their dosing will not change. That’s because these research-backed formulations are very precise, and major changes to their dosing might impact the way they work.
Are prices going up?
Nope! You will still get the same amount of hemp-derived THC, CBD, and CBG per package, with no increase in price.
Why did you make this change?
Over the past few months, we’ve heard a lot from customers requesting two things:
- Easier-to-open packaging.
- 10mg THC Gummies.
This makeover addresses both those needs. If you have further questions, or want to share your own feedback, please let our team of experts know!
What if I don’t want a 10mg Gummy?
We’re sorry for any inconvenience! We promise, the gummies will taste and feel the same if you cut them in half for your usual 5mg dose.
Not interested in halving your gummies? You might also enjoy Wana Beverages, which still contain only 2.5-5mg THC per can.
I still have questions.
We still have answers! Never hesitate to reach out to our dedicated support team – there is no question too specific or small for them to help you with. You can also check our FAQs which includes a dedicated section to the packaging changes.
Quick Relax – Island Punch
Take a quick tropical getaway with these island-inspired gummies and their calming ratio of CBG, CBD, THC, and more than 30 relaxing plant compounds (scientifically known as terpenes). Powered by advanced nano-technology, Wana Quick gummies deliver effects in just 5-15 minutes with a 2-4 hour duration.
Quick Relax – Island PunchLife is beautiful, but it isn’t always easy. And while nobody at Wanderous is a healthcare professional, our employees do rank “Mental Health” as one of the social issues they’re most passionate about. (Seriously, we took a survey.)
We believe in maintaining an open dialogue about the very human struggles we all face sometimes, so we couldn’t miss an opportunity to share some of our team’s simplest (amateur!) tips for daily mental health maintenance. This list is NOT a substitute for professional treatment, and it’s not intended as medical advice, but the Wanderous crew has certainly found them helpful… and we hope you will too.
- Limit news consumption 📰
It’s important to stay informed, but too much bad news at once tends to paralyze rather than inspire. Try designating just 15-45 minutes a day to engage with current events. And if your social media feed is one endless doom scroll, take a break! Or at least mute the accounts that are stressing you out.
- Spend time with your community 👯♀️
Many of us tend to isolate when we feel down or overwhelmed, but this is a trap. Often, spending time with others – whether that looks like an afternoon of volunteering or simply grabbing dinner with a friend – can snap you out of a sad spell, or at least make the tough stuff feel less heavy.
- Speak to yourself like you would a friend ☺️
The way we talk to ourselves, even in our heads, has a very real impact on our self-worth and happiness. It may feel silly, but try taking one minute each day to name something you like about yourself. And for goodness sake, please stop calling yourself stupid when you make a mistake, or lazy for taking a break. You deserve the same kindness you show your loved ones.
- Consider a plant-powered assist 🌱
The stress-relieving benefits of CBD and other hemp-derived compounds are well documented. Products like Wana’s non-intoxicating Quick Calm Gummies can take the edge off a particularly gnarly stress spiral. (NOTE: Hemp is not a replacement for meds that your doctor has prescribed!)
- Don’t be scared to ask for help 📣
The above tips can help smooth out the ordinary rough patches we all experience, but they’re not a substitute for therapy or medical care. If you are seriously struggling with depression, anxiety, or another mental health issue, talk to a trained professional. Our nonprofit partners at Hope for the Day have put together an amazing “Resource Compass” to help people find affordable, accessible help when they need it.
At the end of the day, no single tip or trick or delicious hemp product can guarantee a life without stress or pain or sadness. But if there’s one thing we do know, it’s that you and your brain deserve as much grace as the next person. If you’re struggling to make your own mental health a priority, consider this your invitation to step back, take a breath, and look for support. No one really has it all figured out, but one thing’s for sure: we’re all in this together.

Terpenes: either you love them, or you don’t know what they are yet.
If you fall into the latter camp, don’t worry. We’ve written extensively about the crucial little compounds that give plants (including cannabis) their unique taste, smell, and effects. Check out this earlier article for a crash course, including more information about how Wana – the founding company behind Wanderous – uses them help customize your experience.
If you’re already a terp aficionado, you may have some more specific questions, such as:
- Can terpenes really change how an edible will make you feel?
- What makes Wana’s terpene blends so special?
- WHICH terpenes does Wana actually use?
Knowledge is power, and terpenes are terrific, so we’re here to demystify them as much as possible… one question at a time.
1. Do Terpenes Make a Difference in Edibles?
Short answer: We very strongly believe so. And we’re basing that belief on as much of the existing research as we can get our hands on.
Longer answer: Because of federal regulations that make peer-reviewed cannabis studies difficult, there’s been limited research as to how terpenes affect your body when ingested via cannabis. That said, there have been numerous peer-reviewed studies about how terps affect you when ingested via other means… and we’ve got no reason to believe terps would behave any differently in edibles than they would in orally administered supplements.
- THIS STUDY, for example, demonstrates the presence of terpenes in the blood after oral administration of Mastiha (a Mediterranean plant that produces terpene-rich resins).
- THIS ONE suggests that the terpene linalool has a clinical impact on lessening anxiety when orally ingested.
- And THIS ONE orally administered the terpene citral to lab rats. It found 10% of the original terp dose in the rats’ blood after ingestion. Which may not seem like much, but it’s actually about the same amount you’d see from orally ingesting cannabinoids like THC.
Additionally, Wana’s partners at Niva Labs recently helped conduct an experiment to make sure Wana’s cooking process was preserving all the precious terpenes the gummies are enhanced with. Researchers took samples of the gummie mixture every 2 minutes as it cooked, from the moment the terps were added until after the gummies were cooled and ready to eat. Niva’s analysis found NO meaningful degradation of terpenes – they were present in the same concentration and ratios at the end as they were at the start.
Despite these positive indicators, some skeptics still don’t believe that orally ingested terps live up to the hype. But all this promising early research (plus the countless anecdotal experiences customers have shared) is enough to keep Wana investing in state-of-the-art terpene tech.
Which brings us to question number 2…
2. What Makes Wana’s Terpene Blends So Special?
Wana’s distillate gummies come in three proprietary blends – “Relax,” “Inspire” and “Balance” – each containing more than 30 unique terpenes in various formulations. This in itself sets Wana apart, as most competing companies use only five or six of the most commonly occurring terps.
But Wana was also highly intentional about which terpenes they added to which blends. Years ago, they partnered with a leading terpene research company called Abstrax. Together, they interviewed some of the regulated cannabis industry’s most knowledgeable professionals about their favorite indica (relaxing), sativa (inspiring), and hybrid (balanced) plant variations (also known as “strains” or “cultivars”).
Abstrax then analyzed the terpene profiles of those cultivars and used their findings to build Wana’s three class-specific blends!
3. Which Terpenes Does Wana Actually Use?
Some folks believe that the terpenes used in edibles should only come from one place: cannabis. But this simply doesn’t make sense. On a molecular level, terpenes are the same no matter where they come from – for example, the compound linalool produces the same effects whether you extract it from a lavender or a hemp plant. The origin of the terpenes won’t make a difference as far as how the edibles make you feel.
And actually, there’s a pretty big disadvantage that comes with using terpenes derived only from cannabis. For one thing, they’re harder to come by, which can cause supply issues. For another, cannabis strains evolve slightly from harvest to harvest – meaning that the terpene profile of even one specific strain might change over time. So to use only the terpenes extracted from that strain might produce different effects with each new batch of edibles.
Wana wants to offer consumers consistent results every time. While their terpene blends do mirror the combinations found in cannabis strains, they derive the terps themselves from botanical sources like fruit. Unlike a cannabis crop, botanical sources provide an unlimited supply of the terpenes Wana needs. They make it possible to recreate the same precise combinations – and, by extension, their effects – over and over again.
Belief #3: Some Terpenes Are More Important than Others
This is an easy one! We can’t give away ALL the trade secrets, so we won’t share all 30 of them or the exact ratios in which they occur. But check out the images below for the big picture.

Bottom line: we love terps and want you to experience all the nuance they can bring to an edibles experience. If you’ve got more questions, feel free to ask using the chat feature!
We promise, we’re always ready to talk terpenes.
Quick Lift
This unique plant-derived blend will lift your mood and help you tune into all of life’s little pleasures. Take one for a burst of sunshine when you’re feeling down, to loosen up before time with friends, or to enhance the joy of a favorite activity.
Quick LiftIf you’re a fan of Wana Brands, founders of the Wanderous hemp marketplace, you may already know that their THC-infused Gummies are available in both standard and fast-acting formulations. The difference between these two may seem obvious: Wana Classic Gummies work the way most traditional edibles do, while Wana Quick Gummies are… well, quicker.
But onset time is only the beginning. Wana Quick and Wana Classic Gummies also deliver two different kinds of experiences. In this article, we’ll break down everything you need to know when choosing between the two: how fast-acting edibles work, the difference between a “body high” or “head high,” and how to know which Wana is right for you.
Keeping It Classic: Why Traditional Edibles Feel Different from Smoking
Most cannabis lovers know that edibles create a very different kind of high than smoking or vaping – and the reason is all about your body chemistry!
When you smoke a joint or a bowl, you’re pulling a molecule known as Delta-9-THC into your lungs. That Delta-9-THC enters your bloodstream quickly, delivering an intoxicating “high” within minutes. Though every strain of cannabis is different, the effects you get from smoking tend to be lighter and more cerebral – meaning your mind may start to wander through new thoughts, ideas, or perspectives. This is called a “head high,” and it typically lasts between 2 and 4 hours.
When you ingest cannabis through a traditional edible, like a Classic Wana Gummy, things go a little differently. The Delta-9-THC you’ve consumed has to travel through your digestive system before it hits your blood stream, which means you typically have to wait 45-90 minutes before you feel effects. And crucially, once those Delta-9 molecules reach your liver, they are metabolized and converted into a whole new molecule: 11-Hydroxy-THC.
11-Hydroxy is better at crossing the blood-brain barrier than Delta-9. That means that an edibles high, while slower to take effect, often feels more “potent” or heavy-hitting than a smoker’s high. Many people experience a physical feeling of heaviness, relaxation, or increased sensitivity to touch, often referred to as a “body high.” These effects usually last longer than a smoker’s high, typically between four and six hours.
Making It Quick: How Do Fast-Acting Edibles Work?
If so much digestion and metabolizing has to happen before you can feel a traditional “edibles high,” then how did Wana make a gummy that delivers effects in 5-15 minutes?
Through innovation, of course. Wana Quick Gummies are powered by an advanced nano-encapsulation technology from Azuca, industry-leading pioneers in fast-acting tech. This technique encapsulates each individual THC molecule in a thin, water-soluble layer.
What good is a watery shell? Well, remember that the human body is made of around 60% water. Cannabinoids like THC and CBD are lipids, or fats. Fat and water don’t mix well, which is one reason it takes so long for your body to process traditional edibles.
But with Wana Quick’s nano-encapsulation technology, the water-soluble shell acts as a kind of disguise wrapped around the THC, allowing it to be absorbed more quickly and easily into your bloodstream. That means you’ll typically start to feel high within fifteen minutes of enjoying a Wana Quick Gummy. (Pro tip: Wana Quick works faster on an empty stomach. As with alcohol, eating a heavy meal beforehand may delay onset.)
But it’s not all about onset! Because Wana Quick works so fast, you’ll actually feel the effects of the Delta-9-THC before it can reach your liver and become 11-Hydroxy. In other words, Wana Quick delivers a lighter “head high” that lasts between 2 and 4 hours – closer to the experience of smoking a joint than ingesting a Classic edible, but much easier on your lungs.
Sidebar: Are Wana Beverages Fast-Acting?
Wana’s hemp beverages, like many THC-infused drinks, are made with a different technology than Wana Quick Gummies: a nano-emulsion, which uses a fatty substance like soy or egg lecithin to form loose hydrogen bonds between the THC molecules in your beverage and the water molecules in your body.
This tried-and-true method does tend to produce faster effects, though not quite as “Quick” as Wana Quick Gummies. You can usually expect to feel your Wana beverage take effect within 20 or 30 minutes. And as with Wana Quick, the experience will be closer to an inhalation-like “head high” that lasts 2-4 hours.
Wana Quick v. Wana Classic: Different Effects for Different Occasions
Because of Wana Quick’s faster onset and lighter effects, it’s great for enhancing social engagements like Happy Hours (without the hangover). The shorter, 2-4 hour duration can also be helpful for time-limited events like parties, movies, or concerts – so you can elevate that specific experience without committing to an all-day high. And of course, Wana Quick’s 5-15 minute onset comes in real handy when you need rapid relief from stress or discomfort. That’s why most of Wana’s effects-driven formulations – like Quick Relief, Quick Calm, Quick Lift, and Fast Asleep – are also powered by Wana Quick’s fast-acting technology.
But sometimes it’s ok to stop and smell the roses… or feel the THC. Wana Classic’s longer duration can be just the ticket for all-day adventures, or those at-home days when you just want to curl up and go with the flow. The more potent “body high” they deliver can be especially great for relaxing your muscles and enhancing physical activities like exercise or intimacy. And the 4-6 hour duration may be preferred if you’re looking for longer-lasting sleep support, like the kind offered by Stay Asleep Gummies.

Classic Variety PackThere’s a lot more to hemp and “marijuana” plants than THC or CBD. Cannabis is a complex plant that comes in many varieties – also known as “strains” or “cultivars” – each of which contains a unique blend of compounds that can significantly impact how it affects you. Of these, some of the best known (and most important) are called terpenes.
What Are Terpenes?
Simply put, terpenes are the chemical compounds that give all plants – not just cannabis – their distinct taste, smell, and effects. They’re responsible for scents like pine and lavender (and are even used to make essential oils), as well as the bitter taste of the hops in your favorite IPA. And when it comes to cannabis, terpenes are a big part of the reason some strains make you feel sleepy or subdued, while others might set your mind racing with inspiration.
In other words, terpenes play a really important role in determining the kind of effects your chosen plant product is going to produce. Yet they’re still not as well understood as they could be. So let’s take a look at some of the most commonly accepted beliefs about terpenes… and see if we can separate the misconceptions from the truth.
Belief #1: Terpenes Don’t Really Work in Edibles
Some people don’t believe terpenes have any effect at all when ingested rather than inhaled. We won’t exactly call this belief a myth, because the science (at least as it relates to cannabis) isn’t totally conclusive. And it’s certainly true that, when you isolate THC from the rest of the cannabis plant to create the distillate found in most edibles or infused drinks, you do leave behind terpenes and other beneficial compounds.
What many people don’t realize, however, is that it’s possible to reintroduce these terpenes at a later stage of the cooking process, as long as temperatures remain below the terps’ boiling point. And there are a number of studies (involving plants other than cannabis) which have detected terpenes in the subjects’ blood following ingestion – including this one and this one.
The dedicated R&D team at Wana Brands, the founding company behind Wanderous, have found this evidence compelling enough to invest a great deal time and research into reintroducing terpenes to their gummy formula. Wana has partnered with Abstrax, an industry leader in terpene research, to analyze the terpene profiles of leading cannabis strains. They’ve used that information to create three class-specific terpene blends – a relaxing one based on the terp profiles of popular “Indica” strains, a more motivating one based on top-selling “Sativa” strains, and a balanced one based on “Hybrid” strains. These unique blends are what allow Wana to offer their hemp-derived recreational gummies in three effects-based blends: “Relax,” “Inspire,” and “Balance.”
Belief #2: Cannabis-Derived Terpenes Are Better than Botanically Derived
Many edibles companies feel it’s sufficient to work with only five or six of the most commonly occurring terpenes. The Wana team, on the other hand, believes that nature is a subtle and miraculous thing – and there are no unimportant pieces of the puzzle. That’s why they infuse their products with more than 30 unique terpenes, bringing you as close as possible to the nuanced effects of the cannabis plant itself.
In Conclusion…
Now that you’ve got the basics, we’ll leave it to you to try Wana’s products and draw your own conclusions. But suffice it to say: we at Wanderous are true terpene believers! Want to learn more about Wana’s unique terpene blends? Click here!

If you’ve bought hemp-derived plant products from Wanderous (or anywhere else), you’ve likely come across the term, “Delta-9-THC.” You also likely have questions! What IS Delta-9? Is it different from regular THC? Is it legal? Is it safe?
We can’t all be chemists, but understanding the basics about Delta-9 is essential to enjoying hemp products safely and effectively. We asked our team of award-winning plant experts to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about Delta-9-THC.
What Is Delta-9-THC?
Delta-9-THC is just the long, scientific name for the molecule more commonly known as plain old “THC.” If you’ve ever smoked, vaped, or ingested regulated cannabis (aka “marijuana”), you have consumed Delta-9-THC. Famously, it produces a euphoric “high,” and can also promote sleepiness, stimulate appetite, and help relieve stress or discomfort.
But I’m not shopping for marijuana. I’m shopping for hemp. What gives?
You may be surprised to learn that hemp and marijuana are essentially the same plant: they’re both classified as cannabis. “Hemp” refers to a cannabis plant that contains no greater than .3% THC by net weight. “Marijuana,” also known as regulated cannabis, is a plant that contains more than that.
Crucially, this means that hemp does naturally produce Delta-9-THC – just a bit less of it than its more potent plant relatives.
Does hemp-derived Delta-9-THC have the same effect as “regular” Delta-9?
Yes! Delta-9-THC is Delta-9-THC. It’s the same molecule, and produces the same intoxicating effects, whether it’s extracted from hemp or from “marijuana.”
How is it legal to sell hemp-derived Delta-9-THC online?
The 2018 Farm Bill made it federally legal to buy and sell hemp products, both online and at retail locations. That means that Delta-9-THC extracted from hemp – remember, a plant containing no more than .3% THC by net weight – is also federally legal.
(It’s worth noting that some STATE regulations do prohibit the sale of intoxicating hemp compounds. But don’t worry about accidentally breaking the law. Wanderous won’t ship THC products to states that have banned them.)
What about Delta-8-THC?
Some hemp companies – Wanderous NOT among them – offer products infused with a molecule called Delta-8-THC. It’s often promoted as being slightly less intoxicating than Delta-9, which can be appealing to some consumers. But crucially, Delta-8-THC does NOT occur naturally in either hemp or marijuana plants. It’s typically synthesized in a lab, a process which is subject to ZERO regulatory oversight and which can produce harmful chemical byproducts. This is the case with most other THC molecules you’ll see promoted online as well: Delta-10, “Spice,” and others.
Delta-9-THC, by contrast, is produced organically by the plant. And the Delta-9 you’ll find in Wanderous products has not been synthesized or modified. It’s simply extracted from the plant and infused into your delicious gummies or beverages – no science experiments or nasty byproducts required. It’s much simpler, and much safer, than any other THC molecule you’ll see advertised by other hemp companies.
Is Delta-9-THC safe?
Like any intoxicating substance, Delta-9-THC should be approached with respect and caution. Never drive or operate heavy machinery when under the influence, and keep these products away from kids and pets. If a child in your care accidentally ingests any form of THC, contact poison control immediately.
That said, responsible consumption of Delta-9-THC is generally considered safe for most adults. Even if you accidentally take too much, you’re extremely unlikely to suffer any lasting impact – an anxious couple of hours, or an unexpected nap, are much more probable outcomes.
The best way to have a safe and pleasant experience with Delta-9-THC is to start low and go slow. If you are not used to THC, begin with a very low dose (2.5-5mg) and wait at least one hour to see how you feel before taking more.
Not all Wanderous products contain THC – Martha Stewart’s gummies, for example, are made only with non-intoxicating CBD. But if you’re ready to explore the benefits of hemp-derived Delta-9-THC for yourself, Wanderous has a line-up of premium lab-tested products waiting to elevate your plant-powered wellness.
Quick Lift
This unique plant-derived blend will lift your mood and help you tune into all of life’s little pleasures. Take one for a burst of sunshine when you’re feeling down, to loosen up before time with friends, or to enhance the joy of a favorite activity.
Quick LiftThe cannabis plant can do amazing things to your brain and body. But did you ever wonder why?
Cannabis affects you because of your endocannabinoid system, or ECS: a complex network of transmitters and receptors that works to keep your body in a state of “homeostasis,” or balance.
Understanding how the plant impacts this system – and which compounds produce which effects – can empower you to make more intentional, informed decisions about the products you consume.
How the endocannabinoid system works
Your Endocannabinoid System is operating all the time, not just when you’re under the influence of cannabis. It regulates many of your body’s functions – including sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, and stress – by helping to modulate the signals flying around your body’s internal comms system.
For example, if you’re sore after a workout, transmitters within your ECS might interact with your pain receptors to say, “We hear you, our muscles need a break – stop with the pain signals, please!” Other messages the ECS might deliver are: “Time for bed,” or, “We are not in danger, please calm down,” or, “We should eat a snack.”
The goal with all this intra-you communication is to keep your body’s systems in a state of relative harmony. But what happens when the ECS falters, and the balance is thrown off?
If you can’t make your own cannabinoids, store-bought are fine
When most of us hear the word “cannabinoid,” we think of the famous plant-produced ones like CBD or THC. But in fact, a “cannabinoid” refers to any molecule that interacts directly with the receptors of your ECS. Your body makes plenty of (non-intoxicating) cannabinoids on its own – these are technically called “endocannabinoids.”
THC, CBD, CBG, and other hemp derived cannabinoids are technically classified as “phytocannabinoids.” Plenty of people consume these purely for fun, but they can also give your ECS a helping hand when balance, or homeostasis, is proving hard to maintain.
For example, maybe your ECS isn’t properly signaling bedtime, which means you’re not getting enough sleep. Phytocannabinoids like the ones in Wana Optimals Sleep Gummies can help make you drowsy. On a more serious note, let’s say chemotherapy is making you more nauseated than your ECS is equipped to handle alone. The phytocannabinoid THC can come to the rescue, interrupting those queasy-making internal signals and even helping to stimulate appetite.
It’s also worth noting that different phytocannabinoids can work together synergistically, often more effectively than they can work alone – a phenomenon known as “the entourage effect.” This is why products containing multiple cannabinoids, like Wana’s 1:1:1 CBG/CBD/THC ratio gummies or Happi’s Glow-Up Beverage, often have different effects than those with just THC or CBD alone. In fact, the Wanderous team often recommends that those nervous about trying THC begin with a ratio product like these, because non-intoxicating cannabinoids can help prevent some of THC’s less desirable side effects, like anxiety.
Why it matters
When you’re shopping on Wanderous, you don’t necessarily need to understand the specifics of how cannabis affects your ECS, because our expert researchers (and handy “Discover Your Match” quiz) will do the heavy lifting for you.
Still, knowledge is power. By understanding more about the way your body works, and how different cannabinoids might impact it, you’ll always be able to cut through the noise and find the formulation that’s right for you – no matter where your journey takes you.
Wana Stay Asleep Gummies
A higher dose, melatonin-free alternative to Wana’s popular Fast Asleep Gummies, these tasty Dream Berry bites help address the leading causes of sleeplessness – including stress and physical tension – to help you achieve uninterrupted, all-night rest without next-day grogginess.
Stay AsleepWhen the 2018 Farm Bill made it federally permissible to buy and sell hemp, it opened up a way for companies like Wanderous to sell hemp-derived cannabinoid products – including THC – all over the country. A long-overdue victory for accessible plant wellness!
Unfortunately, not all brands are as scrupulous as the ones featured on Wanderous, and the growing hemp industry isn’t currently subject to the same strict regulations that other packaged foods are.
We caution consumers to look out for a number of red flags when shopping for hemp products outside Wanderous. One of the easiest-to-spot warning signs is the sale of Delta-8-THC, an increasingly popular hemp-derived cannabinoid that you may have already heard of… or even tried yourself.
Back up…there’s more than one kind of THC?
Yes! Sort of.
The cannabis plant in its natural, neutral state produces meaningful quantities of only one form of THC: Delta-9-THC.
Delta-9 is the most commonly known and experienced THC molecule. It’s what people consume when they smoke or vape, and it’s present in many Wanderous products. It typically produces what many people describe as a euphoric, cerebral “head high.”
Things get wacky when you ingest Delta-9-THC via traditional edibles. When that happens, the Delta-9 is metabolized in your liver, where it’s converted into a different molecule called 11-Hydroxy-THC. 11-Hydroxy results in more potent, longer lasting effects, often referred to as “a body high.”
As far as intoxicating THC molecules you can consume straight from the plant, without significant chemical intervention, Delta-9 and 11-Hydroxy are pretty much it. But once you take things out of nature and into the laboratory, things get more complicated. That’s where Delta-8 comes in.
So what is Delta-8-THC?
In terms of molecular structure and effects, Delta-8-THC is very similar to Delta-9, though many report feeling less potent effects when they consume it.
Here’s the catch: the cannabis plant does not naturally produce Delta-8-THC, at least not in high enough amounts to infuse into edibles or beverages. Any Delta-8 you see advertised for online sale has been created in a lab, usually by altering the atomic structure of hemp-derived Delta-9-THC or CBD molecules to synthetically produce this strange little spin-off cannabinoid.
Is Delta-8-THC safe?
The short answer is: probably not! Delta-8 molecules in their pure, uncontaminated form might be ok, but it hasn’t really existed long enough for researchers to study its long-term effects. More urgently, the process by which Delta-8 molecules are synthesized – usually using harsh agents like sulfuric acid – often produces unknown, undesirable, downright unsafe chemical byproducts.
We should also note: Delta-8 is not the only alternative THC molecule being synthesized in labs. See also Delta-10, Delta-7, HHC, HHCO, THCO, THCP, and JWH18 (also known as “Spice”). Some of these molecules are known to have dangerous side effects – Spice, for example, can cause hypothermia and respiratory issues. None of them are required to adhere to any kind of standardized safety practices
Are all Delta-9 products OK?
We’d love to tell you that Delta-9 products are always a safe alternative to Delta-8, because they very often are! But, again, regulations are few and far between in the hemp-derived cannabinoid biz, and plenty of operators do cut corners and produce or extract their Delta-9-THC through unsavory means.
This does NOT mean you need to be scared all online hemp retailers… it just means you need to know what to watch out for. Whether you buy from Wanderous or not, make sure your hemp providers adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and that all their products are third-party tested for potency and consistency.
The proof is in how the products make you feel… but it should be in the official documents too.
Wana Strawberry Lemonade
Bring balance to any moment with Wana’s sparkling Strawberry Lemonade, available online only at Wanderous! With a calibrated blend of THC, CBG, and CBD, this fast-acting beverage can lift your mood and sweeten any activity, whether it’s unwinding at home or enjoying a hangover-free Happy Hour with friends.
Strawberry Lemonade 4 PackWhen it comes to hemp-derived gummies, not all formulations are created equal. At Wana, three distinct gummy formulas—Classics, Quicks, and Optimals—offer unique experiences for a variety of wellness preferences. Whether you’re looking for something more traditional or seeking a formula that aligns with your specific goals, these gummies provide diverse options for hemp-derived CBD and other cannabinoids.
Wana Classics™: Tried and True
Wana Classics™ are perfect for those who appreciate the traditional edible experience. These gummies are formulated for slow and steady onset and offer long-lasting effects, typically taking around 60-90 minutes to start working. The key here is consistency: Classics deliver a reliable, gradual release, ensuring you can enjoy their benefits over an extended period. They’re a great choice if you’re looking for a balanced experience without the fast-acting punch.
Wana Classics™ represent the familiar, foundational edible experience, allowing the cannabinoids to metabolize through the digestive system. This slower process allows for prolonged effects, making them ideal for those who prefer a steady, longer-lasting experience.
Wana Quicks™: Fast-Acting Innovation
If you’re after a faster onset, Wana Quicks offer a more immediate response thanks to advanced nano-technology. Unlike traditional edibles like Wana Classics, which send Delta-9-THC through your digestive tract and liver where it’s metabolized into 11-Hydroxy-THC (taking 45-90 minutes and resulting in a long-lasting body high), Wana Quicks take a different approach.
Wana Quicks are formulated to bypass the slow digestion process by encapsulating each tiny cannabinoid molecule in a water-soluble layer. This makes it easier for your body—made of 70% water—to absorb the cannabinoids directly into your bloodstream. As a result, you can begin to feel the effects in just 5-15 minutes. This quicker absorption means the THC can reach your bloodstream before undergoing first-pass metabolism in the liver.
The result? A lighter, shorter Delta-9 experience that feels more akin to smoking or vaping, providing a quick onset and a duration of around 2-4 hours. Quicks are ideal for those who want to feel the effects rapidly without the long wait typical of traditional edibles. They’re perfect for on-the-go situations or when you need faster relief, making them versatile for both social settings and personal use.
Wana Optimals™: Functionality Meets Wellness
While both Classics and Quicks offer different timings and durations, Wana Optimals™ take a step further by focusing on functionality. This line is crafted with specific wellness outcomes in mind, targeting things like sleep support, relaxation, and overall well-being. What sets the Optimals apart is the careful selection of complementary ingredients—such as adaptogens, botanicals, and other functional compounds—that are blended to enhance the effectiveness of cannabinoids.
Wana Optimals™ don’t just deliver CBD and other cannabinoids; they are designed to support specific wellness goals, making them more than just an edible. For example, you might find formulas that combine cannabinoids with natural ingredients to support relaxation, stress management, or even sleep cycles. Optimals are the ideal choice for anyone looking to supplement their wellness routine with a hemp-derived option that serves a functional purpose.
Which Formula is Right for You?
Each of these gummy formulas offers something different. Classics are the go-to for a traditional, long-lasting edible experience. Quicks offer fast-acting relief when time is of the essence. Optimals, on the other hand, are perfect for those who want to add purpose-driven functionality to their wellness routine. And since these gummies are hemp-derived, they can be enjoyed in a wider range of markets.
By understanding these differences, you can choose the formula that best fits your lifestyle and wellness goals. Whether you’re seeking the slow, reliable effects of Wana Classics™, the speedy onset of Wana Quicks™, or the targeted benefits of Wana Optimals™, Wanderous offers a variety of hemp-derived gummies that align with your needs.
